I asked mountains,
“Lend me your toughness
Your strength to stand still in storms.”
I asked jungles,
“Lend me your colour
Your energy to regrow.”
I asked rivers,
“Lend me your flow
Your vigour to move ahead forever.”
And they all gave me
What I asked for
Without asking why
I wanted more and more.
I became tough like rocks
But forgot that it’s mountain
From whose rocky heart
Comes out spring-fountain.
I learned to grow like trees
But forgot jungle’s not just trees
But the home of innumerable
Animals, birds and bees.
I started moving like a river
Whose goal is to meet the ocean
But led by my ambition I went astray
And lost both my path and destination.
